More like "Osama Bin La-Dead", emmiright? I was hoping to share some words on the disgusting beatification of the PJP-II today but apparently that story has been trumped. I have nothing to say that anybody hasn't. It's very emotional and stirs up memories of that day almost ten years ago when because of this man people found themselves having to make a decision whether to die by being burned alive or jumping out of a window 80 floors above the concrete. Mad props to the intelligence community and the military and one awesome Navy Seal that shouldn't have to buy his own drink for the rest of his life.
"I was hoping to share some words on the disgusting beatification of the PJP-II today"
I know. I was suprised that to see that Ryan Leaf's penis-face was still at the top of the page.

So, are we canceling the 2012 election yet?
Posted by: Assman | May 02, 2011 at 12:36 PM
All I see everywhere (with the exception of AofG) are arguments over which president deserves credit for this. I fucking hate people.

None?

None?
If that was in response to "arguments over which president deserves credit for this" then I agree.
Both Bush and Obama gave the green-light to find and kill Osama. Good job on making a no-brainer call, fellas. Whoever this team of guys was who actually carried out the mission, they deserve the credit.

How is it even an argument? If it was less than a year into Obama's term, maybe it's a different story. Obama got OBL, end of story. Give the man his credit.
Posted by: Jack Klompus | May 02, 2011 at 01:42 PM
What did Obama do? The CIA told him they had the intelligence they needed and he authorized a mission. How many failed missions had he authorized? We don't hear about them, do we?
Posted by: Vandelay | May 02, 2011 at 01:48 PM
Jack, I'm an Obama supporter and even I can't bring myself to say he gets credit for it. I mean, I guess if you insist on giving a president credit, he's the one. But, like I said above, what did he do other than green-light the operation? Saying "yeah, kill that asshole" is the ultimate no-brainer.

Might as well. It's not like the GOP has any worthy candidates this time around either.
Posted by: Whatley | May 02, 2011 at 02:06 PM
As with the president of anything, when something good happens he gets credit. Likewise, when something bad happens he passes the blame. Not a new concept. It's how responsibility level works. When Apple comes out with a new innovation, it's not the nerd developers who are basking in the spotlight wearing douchey mock turtlenecks.

I think it has something to do with "leadership". You tell ppl what you want, how you want it done, and you make sure they do it. It's probably harder than it looks.
I like the idea of him rotting at the bottom of the sea. Nice touch.
Posted by: Mr. Kruger | May 02, 2011 at 02:34 PM
Yeah, I don't subscribe to that at all.
Kruger, you probably know this but just in case...that was so nobody could make a shrine out of his burial site.

Damn I feel like such a fool. Thank you so much for your highly acute insight. It's always inspiring to hear from an insider and an expert on such matters. So much detail and cohesive argumentation it makes my head spin. I'm just incredibly over-joyed I understand it all now.

Any time.

If anything, Obama gets credit for maintaining Bush's strategy and not reallocating special forces to something sillier. There were lots of ways to blow it and he didn't. That said, yes, ultimate credit goes to the folks on the ground.
Posted by: Assman | May 02, 2011 at 04:53 PM
I'm just surprised OBL was hiding out on a million $ compound. Talk about class warfare. Dude moves on up from a cave to a mansion and Obama clips him. Hopefully we taxed him first.

Ok, THAT was funny.
Posted by: Jeff | May 02, 2011 at 05:25 PM
Yeah I'm surprised the House didn't threaten to reject every bill they saw until Obama agreed not to clip a guy living in a mansion.

All I'm seeing on my Facebook wall (mostly left leaning) are folks saying we shouldn't celebrate someone's death. And I'm like... grow up? There aren't many undebatable villains in the world, but if you can't get off the tree hugging high horse long enough to celebrate the death of the one Cobra Commander who actually qualifies, I feel for you.
There are bad guys in the world. Making them dead is a good thing. Eat a steak and embrace victory.
Posted by: Assman | May 02, 2011 at 05:38 PM
Amen, Assman. <-- felt weird typing that.
I read this on facebook:
"Just wondering how buried at sea will sit with Muslims, or if bringing him to justice rather than an assassination would have been viewed better. And all the celebrator glee out there will make us look awful, too. Obviously there will be a reaction - waiting for the fallout..."
I'm not at all worried how Muslims will view his burial at sea (as if they all will look at it the same way anyway). And I hope Muslims are celebrating the death of this monster with everyone else. I have a feeling most of them are.

Like cornering Bid Laden in a tiny cave in the mountains and then calling it all off? " hey! fuck this guy lets go over to Iraq and hang that guy who tried to kill my dad."
Posted by: Mr. Kruger | May 02, 2011 at 06:13 PM
I could give a shit how his killing is viewed. Like we're supposed to kill him respectfully? I don't understand this passive line of thinking. Or vegans.
And yeah, there will be a reaction. Normal Muslims will say, "good, he was an abomination." His team of terrorists will say, "So, do we go to work Monday, or is this thing over?" And some idiot will say, "Cool. I'm in charge of hating the USA now," and they'll get targeted next. It's not like killing him nicely was going to end anti-American sentiment worldwide. You'd have to change our whole foreign policy to do that.

All you have to do is think about the images from 9/11 for a second and I fail to see how any amount of bloodlust or grave-dancing isn't completely justified.

OMG, Assman...I so wish I knew you in real life! Goddammit, man. :D

"Might as well. It's not like the GOP has any worthy candidates this time around either."
Perhaps. But it's not as if Obama's poll numbers were lagging because OBL was still on the loose. Nor was it because he hadn't released his long form BC. It's mainly because of the economy.
George HW Bush was considered a lock for re-election in '92 following Desert Storm. His approval rating was about 90% at one point during 1991. But the economy was in the tank and that rating dropped below 50% by the time the election came around. Clinton was never the front runner, not even in his own party until after the primaries started. Throw in Ross Perot + a great campaign strategy by Clinton's team = there you go.
I'm not saying this will happen to Obama. If I were betting, I'd obviously put my chips on him. But unless the economy sees a sizable turnaround, he's by no means out of the woods. GOP doesn't need to have a clearly identified challenger at this point.

I'm surprised Obama still wants the job at this point.

Oh my God. You'd think after that Santonio mess, the Steelers would just ban these idiots from using Twitter.

They shoulda taken his dead body and hung it down around Ground Zero for a bit. Fuck him and fuck anybody who thinks whatever they did with his body would have any effect on how US hating blood lust zealots will act.
As for the SEAL who took him down, I can't imagine a much greater feeling related to your chosen profession that anyone could ever experience in life. Game 7 OT championship winner in any sport. Huge Supreme Court win in law. Coming up with a cure for AIDS, Cancer or Whatever -- I could maybe see an argument here, but I just don't see any of those things having the rush that guy musta felt when he put that bullet into that jackasse's head.

No, but Kevin already knows that ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE, so how bad could it have been?
