Our Second Grievance From Across The Pond

Let's all welcome That French Guy to the AofG. I actually got this in french and I did my best to translate so if any of it doesn't make sense, it might be my fault, or just because he's, you know...French.

- my boss's boss and this guy's boss : for the past couple of years they have taken the annoying habit of always mentioning your fist name when greeting you. While it may be cool to know that your new n+2 knows your name just a few days after your arrival, it quickly gets on everyone's nerves. First when a bunch of us run into one of them, then it's "Good morning Marius", "Good morning Augustin" "Good morning Jean-Napoleon" and so on, lasting 5 minutes. Secondly, they apparently failed to notice that they look like morons when they only remember 9 out of ten names. And thirdly, it's so painfully obvious that some consultant taught them to do that to show us they care about employees ("it really improves team spirit") that I'm actually embarrassed for them if they believe we fell for that.

- People endlessly complaining about rude people on the subway. Seriously, how long have you been living in Paris ? 5 weeks, 10 years, 35 years ? Do you really think it will ever change ?

- People giving me shit for Christmas family list. I admit, in my family, we have a long-running tradition of putting up a list of presents we'd like to have, exchange them and then decide with the others who buys Marie-Eleonore her bath salts. Almost every time I'm mentioning it, half the people start freaking out like I single-handedly destroyed Christmas spirit (including one friend who does it 3 or 4 times every freaking December, probably just to annoy me even more). Put more items than people and there's still some element of surprise. In addition, you're probably missing on the irony of me having to listen to you bitch for hours, first before Christmas because you don't know what to buy to your sister-in-law ("I mean, I can't buy her a perfume for a third straight year, right ?") and then again after Christmas because you got an hideous painting and an oversized sweater.

Ha ha!! Sam's whole grievance was about rude people on the subway. I guess it's a world wide problem and people across the world should stop bitching. Either that or we have Obama get together with the UN and start a mandatory class for every person on the planet on subway etiquette.
