Can I be the 1,200th person to blog about this?
Your man, Ron Artest, has decided to respond to your other man, Yao Ming, and his hopes that Ron has cleaned up his act by saying:
"I’m not going to take it personal. I understand what Yao said, but I’m still ghetto. That’s not going to change. I’m never going to change my culture. Yao has played with a lot of black players, but I don’t think he’s ever played with a black player that really represents his culture as much as I represent my culture."
So, if you're keeping track at home... being nicknamed Skip to my Lou, having a wrinkly but well-respected head or having parents that named you Bonzi... not black.
Jumping into a crowd, choking a dude out, never apologizing, demanding a trade from the team that supported you through it and just being a motherfucker in general... very black.
I love it when being a douche is considered a culture. I'm sure black people love it just as much when this idiot defends his idiocy with "It's cuz I'm black."

Ty Cobb was the blackest sonovabitch who ever lived!

Newman. . Right off the bat getting after it. Strong.

Most offensive comment about blacks thus far this year goes to Ron Artest.

Ghetto is not culture. Ghetto is socioeconomic. Standing up for yourself is honorable, not sure why its ghetto? Yao exists in the NBA. Artest seriously thinks he is blackest and why?
I know athletes are not philosophers. But damn.

Can we get Artest to serve Vick's sentence? Even trade.

Damn it feels good to be a gangsta'.....

McCain is way blacker than Obama. He's got that hair-trigger temper and general assholishness, and what could be blacker than hiring Karl Rove acolytes to run your negative campaign? Rove is totally ghetto.

It really says something when Artest makes Midget Mac look refined.

I may have said this a 100 times already, but not in this post.
Fuck Ron Artest.

Do people still pay attention to anything this guy says?
Pardon my ignorance, but who is nicknamed Skip to my Lou?

And not just because I'm a Pacer fan. Fuck everything about that cat.

Rafer Alston.

Rafer Alston, Yao's starting point guard

"Jumping into a crowd, choking a dude out, never apologizing..."
There is no denying his excellent representation of being ghetto in the most ghetto place in the USA...Detroit.
Well, Auburn Hills technically. But 35 miles away is close enough.

The same Rafer Alston who notwithstanding a multi-million contract is (allegedly) running around in night clubs stabbing people.
Culture.

Rafer Alston isn't really representative of blackness. Stabbing people is white guy stuff.
Black dudes choke the shit out of teenagers at basketball games. We keeps it hood, son. Yao don't even know.

Have you been to the suburbs of Detroit? Sure, the eastern burbs are a bit rough, but north and west of the city (Auburn Hills is north) it can get ultra-swank.
Media household incomes from the 2000 census:
City of Detroit: $29,526
City of Auburn Hills: $51,376
City of Grosse Pointe: $81,111
Bit of a gap there.

Oh, I've been to the 'burbs. Ironically enough, Grosse Pointe is on the far northeastern border of Detroit. That income discrepancy is only within a few city blocks.
I was laying the sarcasm on pretty thick with that comment. Auburn Hills is nothing but a bunch of white, disgruntled, confused Chrysler engineers and their fellow supplier cohorts pissed off at the ongoing construction on I-75 for the past 20 years. Artest being "ghetto" up there was funny as hell.

Detriot is hockey town. Jackie, notwithstanding, how ghetto can it be?

Or Ray Lewis stuff. Or O.J. Simpson stuff.
