The White Wright

Memo to Trinity U...you can't keep sending whack-jobs to the altar to campaign for Obama; even if they are white dudes.
“I really believe that she just always thought this is mine. I’m Bill’s wife, I’m white and this is mine.”
You could have the second coming take place right inside your church and send the Messiah himself up to your altar to address his followers for the first time in 2000 years and if he starts talking about white entitlement, you'll still get yourself nothing but a collective cringe across the entire nation. Now you've gone and made the guy quit you altogether. Do you get the point now?
You're a church. Just go about your business like the other churches. Tell us about talking snakes and immaculate conceptions. Turn bread and wine into flesh and blood. Strike fear into the hearts of the wicked all you want but for christ's sake, stop talking about the 2008 presidential race.
But... She *has* always thought it was hers. And isn't "white" what she means when she says "electable?" It sure seemed to be in West Virgina and Kentucky and where ever else she tried it. So it's not so much white entitlement as Hillary entitlement he's talking about. Being fed up with that extends well beyond the whacky preacher set.

"So it's not so much white entitlement as Hillary entitlement he's talking about."
In the event you weren't being facetious -- read that back and try to convince yourself you're not full of shit.

How Hillary's racist for even running?
Maybe she's paying these preachers off.

Now. Not how. Why don't you fools have a delete posts button!?!?!?!
Posted by: SL22 | June 02, 2008 at 12:22 PM
Or, maybe these motherfuckers need to stop letting people film their sermons.
I mean, if you filmed all the shit I said in my living room to my family or at lunch with my buddies, you'd probably have to disavow me too.

But this isn't just some random dude who showed up at Trinity on Sunday. He is a powerhouse in Chicago who, like Wright, Obama has known and worked with for going on 20 years. Richard Daly even announced his candidacy for mayor at his St. Sabina church in 2002. For Obama to claim to not know what these guys are all about until recently is ridiculous. It is clear to me now that Obama is just another far-left candidate with a silver tongue and a sleek package. In my view, people who don’t recognize that are gullible.

"But this isn't just some random dude who showed up at Trinity on Sunday. He is a powerhouse in Chicago who, like Wright, Obama has known and worked with for going on 20 years."
Uh-yep. Until a few months ago (right around the time the whole Wright thing surfaced), Obama's website had Pfleger as a featured profile on their Key Endorsements page. So, to your point, Pfleger's no lightweight in Chicago. I also find in interesting that the Ob campaign seemed to know this piece of shit would hit the fan that far in advance.
What baffles me, though, is that it wasn't until he made those Hillary comments that he really popped like a zit onto the new reels.
"with a silver tongue and a sleek package."
That's dirty.

Dude, your blog doesn't even allow me to comment. +1 to me.

Do you have a GMail account? Everyone else can figure it out.
But I don't see why anyone would even want to comment on my excuse for a blog.
Posted by: SL22 | June 02, 2008 at 04:20 PM
It's still a bit of ridiculous though. The guy is an asshole because he says things that no less than 5 people commenting on this website might have said in the same forum?
(This is where Klompus is going to try and shit all over me for qualifying things, but...)
Compare this guy to a lot of the slimy motherfuckers we've seen associated with candidates in the past. Compare these two preachers who are trying to teach accountability (albeit in a semi-retarded way) at the pulpit to some of these greedy arses we see with their hands in politician's pockets every day.
Posted by: Assman | June 02, 2008 at 04:40 PM
Assman, these guys are assholes because in an attempt to campaign for Obama, they are stupid enough to serve as nothing but obstacles for him. The reason that Obama is so popular among white people is because he doesn't make them uncomfortable with all of the racial shit. They generally don't appreciate guilt being spewed at them constantly. Obama knows that but now here you have a white guy supporting Obama who wants to make everything about race. It's extremely counter-productive to what he's trying to accomplish.
Posted by: Art Vandelay | June 02, 2008 at 04:59 PM
It's extremely counter-productive to what he's trying to accomplish.
So, this is less "these guys are wrong," and more "these guys are making white people uncomfortable?" Or is it a mix of both?
Posted by: Assman | June 02, 2008 at 05:03 PM
Can we please start getting rid of their tax breaks if they are going to spout off about politics?
I think I am on topic. Hell. Even I dont know.

Well I'm certainly not in the camp that she thinks she's entitled to be prez because she's white but it's certainly possible. It's more of an opinion though. There's no right or wrong about there. Only she knows. It's much more about the latter, which in turn can lead to less white people voting for you which in turn can lead to you watching McCain get inaugurated next January.

Klompus, after several readings, I'm still convinced.
She does think she's entitled, she got where she is by being Bill's wife, and she has no qualms about reminding people how much more electable, i.e. white, she is, than Obama.
The whacky preacher just called her on it, that's all. He may have thrown the race card with a little less finesse than she does, but you can't tell me it's not in her deck too.
It must be killing Jesse to have someone between him and a camera.

Dingo, while logic certainly supports your point, that technically doesn't mean that he agrees with them. Atleast that's what I've been told.

Dingo, while logic certainly supports your point, that technically doesn't mean that he agrees with them. Atleast that's what I've been told.
This indicates that he does agree with them. Obama talks about his relationship with Phelger in an interview from 2004:
GG:
Do you have people in your life that you look to for guidance?
OBAMA:
Well, my pastor is certainly someone who I have an enormous amount of respect for.
I have a number of friends who are ministers. Reverend Meeks is a close friend and colleague of mine in the state Senate. Father Michael Pfleger is a dear friend, and somebody I interact with closely.
He's already disowned two of the three. The third is up next. Apparently, Meeks doesn't like Jews or gays. He blamed the Hollywood Jews for Brokeback Mountain.
Also,
GG:
Do you still attend Trinity?
OBAMA:
Yep. Every week. 11 oclock service.
Ever been there? Good service.
I actually wrote a book called Dreams from My Father, it’s kind of a meditation on race. There’s a whole chapter on the church in that, and my first visits to Trinity.
I guess he meant to say that he attends every week unless Wright was making an ass of himself that particular week. He also gave or secured money to both Wright's and Phelger's causes. In Wright's case it was personal money. In Phelger's case it was government money. Money is a stronger indication of support than words.
Posted by: Dingo | June 02, 2008 at 05:46 PM
I couldn't watch that guy speak for more than 7 seconds. It was like being ejected out of the space station and knowing that every second that went by you were a light year away from ever seeing Earth again.
Well I'm certainly not in the camp that she thinks she's entitled to be prez because she's white but it's certainly possible.
Believe it. It started 1992 and has only gotten progressively worse. If I could find one video or news article of her being sincere in a way that doesn't drip of Queen Bitch I'll hold my tongue the rest of this campaign which was over 6 months ago anyway.
It is clear to me now that Obama is just another far-left candidate with a silver tongue and a sleek package. In my view, people who don’t recognize that are gullible.
And is it clear to you that John McCain is just another GW Bush by way that stupid Baghdad street market tour, his endorsement from Pstr John Hagee, his membership in the Keating Five, and his ride into the Senate on wife's money?

So start a McCain post if you want. Obama's supposed to be different though. If he's not, can we please drop all the hope and change messianic bullshit?

Man, Klompus is gonna kill me for this too, but...
This indicates that he does agree with them. Obama talks about his relationship with Phelger in an interview from 2004... Father Michael Pfleger is a dear friend, and somebody I interact with closely.
My friend Darren used to steal cars. He's a dear friend, and somebody I interact with closely. I don't steal cars.
Yep. Every week. 11 oclock service... I guess he meant to say that he attends every week unless Wright was making an ass of himself that particular week.
Churches have multiple services. Sometimes they say some shit at 9 that wasn't said at 11. After all, it might not be the same guy speaking the second time.
_____________________________
Look - I'm not saying Obama didn't know these guys occasionally get all passionate and say some dumb shit. But these guys are religious leaders. Passionately saying dumb shit on occasion is their job. If they went on stage every week and just repeated the Bible verbatim, nobody would stay awake through the sermon. (See: Act, Sister)
When you catch the guy in bed with money launderers, fire up the press. When the Rezko dealings get bad, shout it to the skies. When he makes associations with people who clearly want to undermine the American people, make it a big deal.
In the meantime, let the man go to church, occasionally hear some retarded shit from his friends then get on with his life.

If you're running for POTUS, you shouldn't have a dear friend who's occupation is grand theft auto. Especially if you were there when he did it.

While myself and many open-minded God-fearing Americans would tend to agree with this train of thought, you can't just be projecting it out to the entire voting base. It's just not realistic to think that most people are gonna try real hard to put it in the proper perspective. So while you can brush this stuff aside, there are an awful lot of voters who are actualy offended by it and not afraid to hold Obama accountable, despite whether it's justified or not.
I can look at your argument and it makes perfect sense and then I can look at dingo and Klompus' stance and see it as completely valid as well. If it's that subjective, a lot of people on the fence are gonna swing the other way.

Some good reads here. I apologize in advance for the forthcoming book report.
@Kruger
"I couldn't watch that guy speak for more than 7 seconds. It was like being ejected out of the space station and knowing that every second that went by you were a light year away from ever seeing Earth again."
Funny fuckin' shit. Quite honestly, I don't know if that could have been said any better.
@soupnazi
"once again, time to pencil in Pat Paulson!"
Wow, you must be dirt-ass old. Either that or your grampy is your best friend. You bypassed Lyndon Larouche for the Smothers Brothers. That's like Craig old. And I'm like Cozmo old for knowing who Lyndon Larouche is.
@Bookman
"Klompus, after several readings, I'm still convinced...She does think she's entitled, she got where she is by being Bill's wife,"
I agree with that much. But...
"and she has no qualms about reminding people how much more electable, i.e. white, she is, than Obama."
I disagree. Because she's married to Bill (certainly not because she's white) she always thought she's entitled to the BLACK VOTE. She thought she had the election all but won right after '04. It wasn't so long ago people (the media primarily) were talking about how Obama would be Hillary's dream VP running mate. Then when Barry started talking, he convinced people he was Jordan, not Pippen -- that was the piss in Hill's Evian -- not the electable whiteness of being.
@Dingo
Vandelay: "while logic certainly supports your point"
I don't recognize your name from a lot of other posts, so I'm assuming you're fairly new here. Yeah, logic. Don't make that mistake again. And usually, you don't even get the acknowledgment from a dissenter that you used logic before they go on to disagree with or patronize you (and your filthy logic). Welcome to St. Chiles parish.
"If you're running for POTUS, you shouldn't have a dear friend who's occupation is grand theft auto."
You apparently missed/overlooked/ignored the words "used to."
@Assman
"The guy is an asshole because he says things that no less than 5 people commenting on this website might have said in the same forum?"
Has anyone on this website ever been a 100 miles from being considered a key asset for the Obama campaign (besides soupnazi)?
"So, this is less "these guys are wrong," and more "these guys are making white people uncomfortable?" Or is it a mix of both?"
I know, you already know this answer. But I'll reiterate it for the rest of us in case anyone (myself included) has any brilliant arguments otherwise. It's 99.9% about"these guys are making white people uncomfortable." I raise my hand. They make me uncomfortable. Not in the same way Kimbo Slice makes me uncomfortable. But I couldn't watch those guys speak for more than 7 seconds. It was like being ejected out of the space station and knowing that every second that went by you were a light year away from ever seeing Earth again. You know what I'm saying?
"Passionately saying dumb shit on occasion is their job."
Whereas politicians -- in addition to saying dumb shit passionately on occasion, it's also part of their jobs to say dumb shit passively on a day-to-day basis. Except Obama. Because he symbolizes Hope. And Change. And Hope.
"When the Rezko dealings get bad"
Well, they're not...they're not good. In fact they ARE bad. All of them. Luckily for Obama, Hillary has...her life. And McCain has Charles Keating. So Ob's pretty much in the clear there.
Posted by: Jack Klompus | June 02, 2008 at 09:59 PM
Klompus, that was epic...and I'm surprised you haven't thrown a Kimbo Slice post up on here yet.

If you're running for POTUS, you shouldn't have a dear friend who's occupation is grand theft auto. Especially if you were there when he did it.
What if my profession was "community organizer"? Do you think it would be useful to have friends who were, say, influential in the community?
But I know... when I later run for prez, I should tell everyone around me who hasn't always been perfect that they should fuck right off. After all, we only elect people who've only been around perfect people their entire lives. If my mom ever stole a National Enquirer, I'll need to disavow her before the primaries.
Except Obama. Because he symbolizes Hope. And Change. And Hope.
Cut it out. Dude says dumb shit all the time. Or maybe you're too bitter to remember, sweetie?
"When the Rezko dealings get bad"
Well, they're not...they're not good. In fact they ARE bad.
By "get bad," I'm referring to when they get bad in the media cycle. It's all about to heat up in a bit.

"Cut it out. Dude says dumb shit all the time. Or maybe you're too bitter to remember, sweetie?"
Now now. Don't get all sensitive. There's plenty of lampooning to be done to all candidates. Besides, that's less of an indictment on Obama than it is on his supporters. Go back in time and ask people why they are voting for Bush and you can substitute "Hope" with "National Security" and "Change" with "Faith." They all have their ad nauseum catchphrases.
Posted by: Jack Klompus | June 03, 2008 at 10:14 AM
Hillary always thought it was hers. From the time she left the White House there have been rumors of her running.
How you think she got to be Senator? She needed that as a platform.
Re: White entitlement.
White people hate hearing those words but the fact of the matter is there is such a thing but it's more of a subconscious thing IMO.
Just based on the way white folks react to those words tells me something is there.

"It's 99.9% about"these guys are making white people uncomfortable." I raise my hand."
Just so I'm clear. When a white preacher talks about something most of us privately one way or the other agree with it makes white people uncomfortable?
Also can I just say...I hope this campaign closes the door on preachers being shells for candidates both Democrats and GOP.

Do most of us agree with what Pfleger was talking about?

@Klompus :"Do most of us agree with what Pfleger was talking about?"
Based on some of the comments most people here believe she thought it was her's.
Think about it this way, everyone has been telling her she's the next president since Clinton left office. So it's only natural that she would down the line believe the hype.
What I don't get is this whole making white people comfortable at the expense of your principles.
I just find the double standard of holding Obama accountable to what his preachers say but yet GOP politicans have been get a free ride.

While that may be true, I highly doubt that everyone was telling her she's the next president because she's white. That's just stupid.

"Based on some of the comments most people here believe she thought it was her's."
I believe that. I said as much in an earlier comment. What I disagree with is the notion she thought it was hers because of some kind of "white entitlement." I think that's nonsense (and pretty much why people are making a big deal about Pfleger). If anything, she'd have gender entitlement. But I don't think even that's the case. It has more to do with Bill's stature within the Democratic Party and also his previous popularity with African Americans.

Fair enough Klompus. I kinda understand your point. That being said. We have to come up with an acceptable definition of "white entitlement."
IMO white entitlement is more of a covert then instead of an overt thing.
Posted by: Dr. Strangejazz | June 03, 2008 at 01:21 PM
"We have to come up with an acceptable definition of "white entitlement."
I think we have the same understanding of what the definition is. It certainly applies when you're talking about things like police inquiries and billing disputes. But we're talking about someone running for president. I have a real difficult time believeing that Pfleger's gonna be able to read her subconscious so simply -- and then we're all gonna be like, "Oh yeah, obviously he's right."
