Who is More Despicable Than PETA?
Seriously, is their an outfit that purports to be doing good that has their head further up their asses than the people of PETA? I mean, it was bad enough that I wasted a nice amount of cake betting on five long shots to win, none of which were ever even mentioned in the tope ten; and that you had to have people pulling the Barbaro stuff all over again and completely losing all perspective about an animal that they have zero relation to dying; but then PETA has to come in and take the disgracefulness to a whole 'nother level. WTF is wrong with these people?
Yeah, PETA is completely out of their element. I wrote a big thing about PETA and Eight Belles over at my place. They won't rest until the animals rule us.
Sorry your bets didn't pay!

Chiles, they should of hired Michael Vick to ride that horse- it would never even have made it out of the gate and then you could've bet on a better one.

I disagree. PETA's reaction was over the top. That I grant. But this happens too much. If every 10-15 years a horse was destroyed I might be able to tolerate it. But this is happening more and more. Too often actually. These horses are bred to be muscular and have very thin ankles for speed. Its an unnatural balance.
Again PETA's heart is in the right place. But, blaming the Jockey is silly.

"I disagree."
What do you disagree with? Not clear.

I disagree with the unspoken sentiment that PETA has no place complaining about horse racing. I also disagree with the sport generally though. However, my hypocrisy is noted, as meat eater.
Still I think the sport is animal exploitation slightly more excessive than dog fighting.

I don't feel strongly about that one way or another. I don't really care and can see both sides.
I do, however, think that blaming the jockey is the height of stupidity. I'd bet big money that none of those PETA dumbfucks are anywhere near as emotionally damaged from the horse going down as the jockey is.

This kinda reinforces Chiles' point, in a sense. PETA has an argument. They often do. There's a clear point that stands to be made and a clear point of advocacy.
But what they do is pull bullshit stunts and argue absurd and non-salient perspectives. This, in my opinion, devalues their points and makes them seem less credible.
So instead of making me think "yeah, horse racing needs to check itself", I just think, "These fuckers need something else to do."

C'mon...Here at the Culinary Institute we teach our chefs-in-training on the finer aspects of 'horse flank tenderization,' and it takes a fair amount of whipping from a 90-pound latino to get horse meat to that buttery texture so desired by today's consumer.

Sjit's weak, PETA.
Also, Chiles, did you spend as much time looking for a good picture of that horse as I did earlier today? I'm not even sure the bitch is in that picture.

Because I am an unoriginal bastard, I will second Assman's take.
I'm off to the track now. Wish me luck.

"Still I think the sport is animal exploitation slightly more excessive than dog fighting."
Betting on animals running against each other is more excessive than betting on them ripping each other apart? Please elaborate.

Affirmative.

The best thing about PETA is their ability to convince hot model/actresses to pose nude.
There's something pretty fucked up about having a horse race hard enough so that it fractures its ankles.

It is when you put it like that, but, I mean, that's a big fucking horse, and it's got chicken legs. So I can see how it would happen.

PETA kills animals. That is all.

I'm not sure about PETA as an organization (don't know enough about their practices) but I agree with Ocho. These animals are being exploited for human entertainment and profit. And simply because they cannot speak up for themselves, their rights are ignored. At the same time, I eat meat so clearly I don't have a leg to stand on (no pun intended).

Do you agree that exploitation is more excessive than dog fighting?

Yeah, but then what the fuck are they doing breeding those skinny little legs on them. Personally I feel some types of animal breeding are forms of animal abuse. Horses with legs thin enough to snap when they run on them, bulldogs that need a c-section to give birth, that sort of stuff is just fucked up. Don't even get me started on German Shepherd's hips.

@Klompus

No, I don't agree with that. But I can't advocate it just because it's a lesser degree of exploitation.
@Patrick
They won't rest until the animals rule us.
Again, I don't want to defend PETA here because I don't know enough about their practices. But there are a lot of intermediate steps between a world where we are exploiting animals for entertainment and profit and a world where animals rule us. I'm just hoping someday we'll move into that middle ground.
