The Toxic Prez
So old GW is so unpopular now that he can't even bring in enough people to a fund-raising event to make it worth the cost of renting out the arena. And this event was in the state of the nominee he's trying to raise money for. Of course the Whitehouse is saying that the shindig was shut down because of concerns over protestors and coverage by the press. Coverage by the press?? The Republican candidate for President won't hold a fundraiser for fears that it might get press coverage? Bizarre. This leads me to believe McCain would have a better shot at the WH if he switched over to the Cool Moose party. Hell, even Ralph Nader could raise more money than pretzel boy at this point.
And what's the deal with H. Clinton comparing the FLA and MI situation to the 2000 the election? Not only that, she compares her "plight" with the DNC to the struggles of the civil rights movement and the ERA? Has she totally lost control of her fucking senses? Did she not agree to the rules like everyone else? Yes.
I don't know. She compared it to Zimbabwe already. Comparing it to 2000 seems mild in comparison.
Hey, did you hear that Obama's uncle liberated Auschwitz, presumably while working for the Red Army?

If I was a betting man (who also happened to live in Arizona where the newspapers, editorials and talk radio segments are easily accessible), I wouldn't necessarily be ready to put cash on Sen. McCain winning his own state.
There isn't much joy over his pretty aloof leadership from the past 6 years and even fewer folks that like the guy he's trying to follow in the president's seat.
I may have seen 5 or 10 "McCain '08" bumper stickers around, and I live in one of the more Republican cities in the state.

Are you saying he's not the maverick he's cracked up to be? I'm shocked.

"Hey, did you hear that Obama's uncle liberated Auschwitz, presumably while working for the Red Army?"
No, but I did hear Obama claimed to see dead soliders in the audience during a Memorial Day speech. It's getting more wacked by the minute.

It is less delusion, maybe, but if you at how these statements keep coming you start to wonder about the mental competency of this person.

Well, he couldn't have been in the US Army because they were nowhere near Auschwitz at the time it was liberated. I don't know about this one, sounds like he should have kept his mouth shut.

Exactly. I can see how candidates will make crazy farcical statements in an attempt to gain support but the ones she's been making as of late can seemingly only hurt her cause. There's a fine line between devious and stupid.

At this juncture, it seems clear that Hillary is imploding. The best way for the Obama camp to handle this would be to stay completely away. There shouldn't have been any official reaction from them to the RFK remarks. Going forward, let her take herself out. She doesn't appear to need any help.
As far as McCain is concerned, he may as well put the gun in his mouth as to ally in any way with GW. I think it's high comedy to see this happen, but shouldn't be a surprise to anyone. I'm still wondering how exactly GW is going to handle himself in his post-presidential years. He can go back to playing golf. Hopefully that's all he does. Fucking moron...

Probably in the same way he's spent the last eight years- he'll spend it handling himself.

This is MENSA shit compared to all the stupid shit Bush has said

"This is MENSA shit compared to all the stupid shit Bush has said"
Priceless. Obama's got a growing laundry list of fuck-ups and it's not even June yet. While nobody will ever match GWB's volume of brain farts, it is interesting to see how Obamamites handle criticism of Barack's gaffes. That little manipulative semantics game should not seem so foreign to you all -- you've been playing it for almost 8 years now. All of us right-leaning folks used a familiar defense everytime Bush was criticized: "Well Bill Clinton did THIS!" It appears that same cycle will continue: "Well compared to what Bush said, it's no big deal!"

I think it's just the law of averages. These people do so much talking in public forums that they can't possibly get away with not producing some real stupid shit. I don't even know that it's semantics. They're just errors. I mean...57 states? What's up for interpretation there?
Now, in some cases, they're clearly not errors but they're flat out lies (HRC dodging bullets at the airport in Bosnia).

Well I suggested he should've skipped that part of the speech because based on his tone he looked like he knew he was over-reaching... for some facts. And yes, he was trying to position himself in good standing with those veterans based on his grandfather's WWII experience which is a bit exploitive and definitely pandering. But it can't even begin to be compared to this kind of crap.

"I think it's just the law of averages. These people do so much talking in public forums that they can't possibly get away with not producing some real stupid shit."
Bullseye. Which makes it all the more funny when people complain about one and not the other.
" I mean...57 states? What's up for interpretation there?"
Well he followed up with "one left to go," so clearly he meant the 48 states between Mexico and Canada.
"Now, in some cases, they're clearly not errors but they're flat out lies (HRC dodging bullets at the airport in Bosnia)."
Or paraphrasing "I wasn't aware Rev. Wright felt that way..."

That's not even what we're talking about though. Bush didn't misspeak there. He conveyed his opinion exactly the way he wanted to despite how delusional it may be.

Well, some are more egregious than others. I don't think that's up for debate.

"Gaffes" or whatever are pretty much normal and expected in politics. You can't hold it against someone if they screw up on camera occasionally. (Confusing Sunni's and Shiites, saying "misunderestimated", forgetting where Auschwitz is, calling a reporter "sweetie", etc.)
The issue with Bush was (is?) his continued insistence on fucking shit up. Like saying "nuke-u-lar" after having to have been corrected a billion times. It's embarrassing from a leader. If he did it once or twice - whatever. But he still does it today, man! Today!
I'm all for letting gaffes be gaffes*, but getting on these fuckers when it comes to things like obvious lies, blatant arrogance and ignorant policy decisions.

"Well, some are more egregious than others. I don't think that's up for debate."
Not debating that. I'm just noting the amusement in the whole "well this guy did his thing which is the same or worse, so my guy's fuck-up is no big deal." Like it's a carbon offset or something.
"Like saying "nuke-u-lar" after having to have been corrected a billion times."
Klompus being a hypocrite: Eisenhower, Carter, and Clinton did it, too.
Posted by: Jack Klompus | May 28, 2008 at 11:27 AM
"Like it's a carbon offset or something"
Oh, and just in case -- I'm not really comparing carbon offsets as one-to-one. I'm comparing them as concepts of "false atonement."

" While nobody will ever match GWB's volume of brain farts"
And thats the point, Bushites (or now McCainites, since nobody wants to admit they voted for the idiot twice anymore) like to play this bullshit "all things are equal" game... like lying about a blow job is just as bad as lying about a war.
Point is there is no reasonable argument to make about the relative intelligence of Bush and Obama...not at all.

"since nobody wants to admit they voted for the idiot twice anymore)"
I'll admit I voted for him (not the first time but the second time). I thought he did a pretty good job his first term. My opinion of his second term is the exact opposite. Nonetheless, if I had to do it all over again -- I'd still vote for him over John Kerry.
"And thats the point, Bushites (or now McCainites...like to play this bullshit "all things are equal" game..."
Oh that's the point? So it's all one-sided? If you think so, you haven't a shred of intellectual honesty. It's done by both sides -- not just with the Prez, but also Congress. Who gets the larger share of shit really just depends on who's at the podium most. And it's gotten to the point where it's become such a vicious cycle that it puts a stranglehold on our government ever getting anything accomplished. That's the fuckin point.
" like lying about a blow job is just as bad as lying about a war."
Another perfect example of what I'm talking about. Anybody who would make that comparison is clearly a dumbshit so it has no bearing whatsoever. It's cited by people like you for strawman purposes only.
"Point is there is no reasonable argument to make about the relative intelligence of Bush and Obama...not at all."
Or the relative intelligence of any presidential candidates for that matter. But the only person who came close to such a comparison here is DFS. The most intelligent people in the U.S. never run for president. Because they're smart enough to know better.

"The most intelligent people in the U.S. never run for president. Because they're smart enough to know better."
Unfortunately, Klompus is right about this. The best person for the job wouldn't have it. Why this is could be another lengthy dialogue, but however hopeful (there you go again, Klompus) I might be about a major change, this fact puts it in perspective.
