Morehouse; More problems.
I found this article very interesting to hear different opinions about the white valedictorian at Morehouse College. Do you think that his decisions to attend Morehouse College had more to do with him trying to stand out and make a statement or do you believe his view that he has naturally gravitated toward the African-American community? Do you see any problem with his acceptance of the valedictorian honor?
absolutely no problem. glad that a white man was able to benefit from education at a predom black institution. why should this be any less momentous than the first black to be valedictorian at a predom white school?
Also, the guy turned down a full ride to Columbia to go there- probably not many of the black students at Morehouse did the same, so he clearly had academic gifts- it's not an indictment on the academic prowess of blacks at the school.

Morehouse is a good school. It's not like he turned down Yale to go to Clinch Valley Community College.
And he went to the same college that a lot of his friends went to / applied to. Doesn't that sound like a decision most 17 year olds would make anyway?

"do you believe his view that he has naturally gravitated toward the African-American community?"
Actually I do. The guy has black relatives and his mother married a black guy. So if he was raised with a black man as a father figure in his house it would only be natural for him to gravitate toward a black college.
I have no problem with this guy attending Morehouse.

exactly, though I think that occurence would get much less press.
