Rodney...why?
Yo, check it out...I had some injuries that were taking a while to recover from and I took a little HGH to speed up the process but no way, no how does that give me a competitive advantage and for anyone to imply so is completely ludicrous.
No, I meant why are you such an indignant punk?
Oh. I'm a Patriot. Duh.
I kid. I kid because I love. I love me some Patriots just as much as the next guy and I'm well aware that there probably isn't a team in the league who doesn't have players using banned substances. Not to mention, 37 wasn't even there for the first one, but for the record... *. Just sayin'.
Seriously though, Rodney can eat a bag of dicks regardless of what he's putting in his body. I don't give a shit. What I am curious about is why certain people who do give a shit are all of a sudden nowhere to be found. I'm talking to you, Mike Vrabel.
I remember watching the draft a couple of years ago and there was a roundtable of current NFL players offering their analysis. When the Chargers drafted Luis Castillo, a defensive lineman out of Northwestern, who failed a test for a banned substance and offered the same "apology" as Rodney, all of the players said he made a mistake and he should be given a second chance. Then there was Vrabel who blasted the Chargers saying that it sends a terrible message to draft a guy like that because he cheated the game.
So, I've been scouring the headlines here looking for Vrabel's condemnation of his boy and his declaration that the Pats should cut him because it sends a terrible message. After all, he cheated the game. I just can't seem to locate it.
Little help? Anyone?

Yeah perhaps instead of trying to provoke thought, I should should just post mindless sophomoric trash talk.
Chiles, if you're too lazy to actually think, perhaps you shouldn't post anything at all, because believe it or not, I actually have a valid point here. When you minmize it by saying I have an unhealthy obsession with the Patriots you insult me. I understand that this type of hypocrisy doesn't bother you but if David Ortiz got gaught doing HGH, the biggest story out there would be what Curt Schilling has to say. Somehow, Vrabel has escaped that and nobody seems to be bringing it up. This post is about the way the sports media picks and choses what they'd like to report on and their love affair with the Pats doesn't allow them to report on things objectively. Regardless of whether you think I'm obsessed with the Patriots...that's a fair point. Perhaps when I wonder why Richard Seymour wasn't punished for doing the same thing that Haynesworth did last year, instead of trying to minimize the argument by insulting the person asking the question, you should actually think about it. You might start to see things you normally wouldn't. So for now on, when you see that I've typed the word "Patriots", you can go into it with an open mind or maybe just plead the 5th, because you come out looking like an ignorant twit. I like to think you're better than that.

I also like to think that Ray Lewis killed a guy.

The prosecution rests.

"Yeah perhaps instead of trying to provoke thought, I should should just post mindless sophomoric trash talk."
Hey Memento, did you forget where you are again?
"Chiles, if you're too lazy"
Once you get those words out, you've already answered your own question.
"When you minmize it by saying I have an unhealthy obsession with the Patriots you insult me."
Home run, Jackie Chiles. For the record, Vandelay, I don't think you have an unhealthy obsession with the Patriots. Your unappreciated housewife shrieking about the Pats is music to a Masshole's ears.
"This post is about the way the sports media picks and choses what they'd like to report on and their love affair with the Pats doesn't allow them to report on things objectively."
Yeah, obviously. How Jackie confused that thesis with you being batshit jealous of the Patriots is an absolute mystery.
"Somehow, Vrabel has escaped that and nobody seems to be bringing it up."
It's because he used to be a Pittsburgh Steeler. The damn media is always covering for them.
"So for now on, when you see that I've typed the word "Patriots", you can go into it with an open mind or maybe just plead the 5th, because you come out looking like an ignorant twit."
Yes, Jackie, "for now on" you can plead the fifth -- even if you are not being asked a question. Whenver you see "Patriots," just plead it. You ignorant rainbow sprinkle-lovin', jorts-wearing twit.

Of course Vrabel isn't going to rant out on his Patriot brotha...That's old school, baby!
That, and the Patriots believe that their sh*t doesn't stink. They are, after all, coached by a "genius." How can one argue with that?
Posted by: J. Peterman | September 04, 2007 at 10:25 PM
Klompus, first off, you're a fucking retard.
Now, if I were a Patriot fan as you are, I'd be concerned about the fact that a guy on my defense has to play with another guy that doesn't think he should be in the league. I thnk it's an interesting angle and one that everyone seems to be avoiding. Again, it'd be a huge story if it was Ortiz. I don't understand the kid gloves.
Of course I wouldn't want you to think this hard because it's much easier to say I'm jealous...the guy that crushes players, coaches, and fans of his own team infinitely harder than any other team by the way. I must be biased against the Steelers since I think Bill Cowher, Jerome Bettis, Hines Ward and half the fan base are idiots. To take that a step further, I suppose by your logic, I'm jealous of my own team?
Sorry, I don't mean to throw logic your way. Go back to the mindless insults. It's what you know.
(Yes, I'm aware that I started off with a mindless insult but that's more of an astute observation if anything.)

"Klompus, first off, you're a fucking retard."
And?
"I'd be concerned about the fact that a guy on my defense has to play with another guy that doesn't think he should be in the league. I thnk it's an interesting angle and one that everyone seems to be avoiding"
You would? That's pretty damn silly. Believe it or not, not all players on all teams get along. But they don't have to. They get payed to perform. Friends or not, if they don't perform, they're gone. Now, you might have a point if you were able to substitute Belichick or Kraft for Vrabel in this instance. But Vrabel doesn't have a say in player personnel, so it's a non-issue. They'll either work it out, or they won't. But it doesn't mean they whole team will be in shambles if they don't.
Also, everyone isn't necessarily avoiding this angle -- it's just that it's not interesting to anyone but you at this point. If this becomes buzzworthy, believe me -- the media will take advantage of it. You can throw all the tantrums you want, but if it doesn't generate ratings, the media won't pursue it. Plain and simple. It doesn't matter if it's the New England Patriots or the Cleveland Browns.
"Of course I wouldn't want you to think this hard because it's much easier to say I'm jealous"
Of course it's easier. But I had no choice, though, because there wasn't anything to think about --oher than, what the fuck is Vandelay bitching about, and why does he hate Jackie Chiles?
"I must be biased against the Steelers since I think Bill Cowher, Jerome Bettis, Hines Ward and half the fan base are idiots."
If you think they are idiots, then yes, you are probably biased against them.
"To take that a step further, I suppose by your logic, I'm jealous of my own team?"
But that's not my logic, that's yours. And I would expect more from such an "astute observationist."
"Sorry, I don't mean to throw logic your way."
Well let me know when you mean to. I'll have to doubly prepare my mind for an exercise of that magnitude.
Posted by: Jack Klompus | September 04, 2007 at 11:52 PM
I have an unhealthy obsession with the fact that it was a fumble.
To your point, Vandelay, (which seems to be something we're avoiding here) I'm operating under the assumption that this angle hasn't really occurred to too many folks yet. That was a single comment made a while back that wasn't amplified by a follow-up interview by Bob Costas or anything. You may be aware of it, but it's not common knowledge that Vrabel has a public anti-HGH agenda, so it's not instant news. Give it time maybe.

"To your point, Vandelay, (which seems to be something we're avoiding here) I'm operating under the assumption that this angle hasn't really occurred to too many folks yet."
Assman, nobody (besides Jackie) is avoiding anything. I believe I just made the point that if it becomes "buzzworthy" in eyes of the public and the media sees ratings potential -- they will jump all over it. And I believe you just made the point that Vrabel's stance on Castillo was not widely known by too many people so it's not instant news, but give it time. And Peterman made the point that Vrabel's probably not going to publicly slam his own teammate (at the onset of the season) for something he publicly slammed a rival for previously. That's just common sense.
So, because the public and media are not as passionate about this as Vandelay, it's obvious the media is not objective when reporting (or not reporting) on the Patriots? How objective is that?

Look! It's catching like wildfire!
Posted by: Jack Klompus | September 05, 2007 at 09:28 AM
Actually, you guys completely avoided the point up until my last post. Your response was simply that nobody should lend this any credence because I'm jealous of the Patriots, which of course is not only juvenile but mindless and insulting (for the record I am jealous of their offensive line but the same can be said for 80% of teams in the league). The ironic part is that even though I think Rodney is a piece of shit, I'm defending him here.
Furthermore, I don't hate Chiles, I just hate to see him act like an 8 year old and I think that if everytime he made a post about racism and I commented that if you haven't read this blog, Chiles has an irrational obsession with racism so sit back and watch the insanity, that he'd be pretty pissed off.
This is fairly erudite blog that spawns a lot of good debates. I'd hate to see it get to the point where we've become so fucking lazy that instead of attacking the issue, we're attacking the poster. It's just assinine.
Regarding the idea that it's not buzz-worthy...that's exactly my point. Why is it not buzzworthy? They're good friends and Vrabel doesn't think he should be in the league. In New England of all places, that would normally be a huge story, whether justified or not.
By the way, 'm not trying to pretend that I have no animosity towards the Pats. Their faux-dynasty can in large part be credited to the incompetence and gutlessness of people like Bill Cowher and Jerome Bettis. It certainly isn't fun being a Steeler fan surrounded by Massholes...I'll give you that. However, if anyone ever said something about the Steelers, I'd welcome the discussion. Never ina million years would I diminish their view by caling them jealous or a hater.
Grow. The. Fuck. Up.

"Your response was simply that nobody should lend this any credence because I'm jealous of the Patriots, which of course is not only juvenile but mindless and insulting"
First of all, the jealous comment was a joke -- it was intended to rile you up. Amazingly, it did. If you are truly insulted by that -- Grow. A. Pair.
"Furthermore, I don't hate Chiles,"
Jesus H, I know you don't hate Chiles. I was making reference to one of your jokes that I happened to find funny (Why do you hate....?).
"I just hate to see him act like an 8 year old"
Pot. Kettle.
"I think that if everytime he made a post about racism and I commented that if you haven't read this blog, Chiles has an irrational obsession with racism so sit back and watch the insanity, that he'd be pretty pissed off"
I call him a race baiter all the time. As do others. I may be wrong about this, but I've never seen him respond like a little bitch about it.
"This is fairly erudite blog that spawns a lot of good debates. I'd hate to see it get to the point where we've become so fucking lazy that instead of attacking the issue, we're attacking the poster. It's just assinine."
Oh, quit the self-righteous melodrama. I'd also hate to see it get to the point where our posters are so full of themselves that if they are not taken seriously, they throw a tantrum.
"Regarding the idea that it's not buzz-worthy...that's exactly my point. Why is it not buzzworthy?"
A number of reasons, probably. Neither Vrabel nor Harrison are household names, for one. If you were talking Tom Brady and Randy Moss, it would be likely be big news. That's just the way journalism works. But again, it still might eventually get its play. Only time will tell.
"By the way, 'm not trying to pretend that I have no animosity towards the Pats"
Nobody said you were. Jackie just made the "astute observation" (read: joke) that you had an unhealthy obsession with the Patriots. When you responded in hysterics, you not only provided his punchline -- you also opened up a tangent debate (as is common on this blog).
Posted by: Jack Klompus | September 05, 2007 at 10:26 AM
He wasn't joking, but to the rest of that, yeah...I'm probably acting like a bitch for unwarranted reasons. I'll give you that. I'll use recovering from three Labor Day weekend parties as my excuse.
Sorry.

I just want to say that this camera-gate thing is obviously another example of people pushing their spite and envy-ridden agendas to try to make the Pats look unethical. Chris Mortensen is a hater.
