My nephew had a speech impediment when he was very young...couldn't pronounce the letter "r," instead it came out like a "w." What did we do? We sent him to a speech therapist. We didn't make fun of his problem by enticing him to say bad words and then videotaping it to show the whole world.

What's going to happen when this girl is in a toy store and sees Wiggles stuff? She's going to yell out what she says in the video, of course, because her parents have conditioned her to think that it's not only an acceptable word but one that makes people laugh and give her more attention.

Maybe as she gets older she'll learn that word's not acceptable, but then again maybe not. I heard that word a lot growing up and it wasn't until college that I understood that it was wrong to use it and why. But some people don't learn that...my brother still uses that word.

On the one hand, I want the video removed because it's offensive to many people, including myself. On the other hand, I think it's good that so many people can see it and react to it. This is an example of how the anonymity afforded by the internet exposes racism as alive and strong, except it's gone into hiding. To me, underground racism is worse than the blatant racism that existed in the past.

I'm white so I can't fully understand how this feels but I can imagine that there must be at least some sense of vindication in all of this...vindication because you've known racism was still all around you, but because it was in hiding, you couldn't indentify it or address it. Am I right?

No quite, Jeff. It's not very difficult at all to identify subtle forms of racism, so that's not where this helps or vindicates. It's more helpful or vindicating because it makes crystal clear that racism is very alive and very well for people of the ilk who would think things like if Obama gets elected that means racism in this country is dead.
