In a performance that would make the Master Thespian jealous, former Farleigh Dickinson professor Jacques Pluss explains away his ties to and leadership in the American Nazi Party as a simple sociology experiment.
Today, in an article being published on the History News Network, Pluss explains that he was never a real Nazi, but pretended to be one and outed himself so that Fairleigh Dickinson would fire him — all to collect material so he could write a book...In his article, Pluss cited the influence of the French deconstructionists Derrida and Foucault, as well as the work of Ernst Kantorowicz, a historian of medieval Europe, to explain why he pretended to be a Nazi.
Not surprisingly, reps from Pluss' former academic stomping grounds have no comment and, presumably, no plans to welcome back the prodigal son from the Aryan wildnerness.
For what it's worth, I sympathize with Pluss' attempts to clear his name, as I, too, share a similar experience. For the better part of thirteen years, I lived a lie, taking AP classes, reading books in the far corners of the elementary school playground, participating four years in my high school's marching band. Throughout and ever since this exploration of the underground life of the uncool, I was labeled a 'nerd' or a 'dork', mantles I am loathe to acknowledge given my true inner nature and thriving social curiousity. How else can I explain it, other than to say I was...
ACTING!!
Perhaps Pluss is just reprising another Jon Lovitz role, Tommy Flannagan, leader of Pathological Liars Anonymous.

He should have pretended to be a Communist. They would have given him a raise.

Raise, tenure, publishing contract and a Chair named after him.
