Saw the taut Broadway drama Doubt last night. I passed on the chance to see it off Broadway a few months back, and now that it is in the big house, I just had to see it. The play is about a nun in a Bronx Catholic school in 1964 who becomes convinced that a favored young priest is raping her students, and how she brillaintly schemes to flush him out of his position of power.
This play is so simple (there are only four actors) and intese - it grabbed me from the first line to the last. The plot contains just enough wrinkles to make even the most certain observer doubt their conviction in one way or another. It is superbly acted and the action moves quickly, both on the stage those imputed off it. Father Flynn its both charismatic and fiendish, while Sister Aloyisius' self-assured smugness turns you away from her personality, even while you envy her resolve. There is not a second of wasted space in the play, as it only runs about 90 minutes, but if you are looking for something worthwhile to spend your entertainment dollar, this is it.
If you can't see it in NYC, wait for the movie, which I am sure must be forthcoming. It could follow in the tradition of two other great one-act plays from Broadway, A Few Good Men and Gengarry Glen Ross. If any casting directors are reading this, I am thinking Matt Damon for tha part of Father Flynn. Cast Colin Ferrell or Big Head Ben at your peril.
AofG Extra: Seated 5 rows infront of Cozmo and his wife at Doubt was the lovely Nicole Kidman. I can assure you that she is hotter in person than on the screen, and that Tom Cruise must indeed be gay. Wow. Just, Wow.
I believe Tom is gay too. That's why he's going after the young ones now. They don't know any better.

I absolutely love Cherry Jones. She's just a joy to watch.

Dude who played Father Flynn in the Broadway show was a dud on Oz.
